Funerals & Memorials

Funerals, Memorials, & Celebrations Of Life

Few instruments can match the powerful reverence and soul of the bagpipes, so it's no surprise that pipes continue to be a common tradition at memorials, funerals, Celebrations of Life and Irish wakes. It truly is a humbling and profound experience.

Gena always strives to make the process as simple and straightforward as possible so more time can be spent with friends and family instead of planning the logistics of the service.

In addition to private memorials, Gena also has experience performing for Memorial Day events and 9/11 Remembrance services.

Funeral And Graveside Services

If the service takes place outside, one common request is to have the bagpiper play as the hearse and guests arrive onsite. Likewise, the bagpiper can play at the beginning to start the service or at the end as flowers are placed or the casket is lowered. The bagpiper can be positioned nearby or played within eyesight from a distance so the pipes can be heard on the air.

Memorials, Wakes, And Celebrations Of Life Services

Memorials, wakes, and celebrations of life can differ from funeral and graveside services as the music can more appropriately range from traditional, reverent tunes (like Amazing Grace) to uplifting and lively (even joyful). Similar to funerals - the most commonly requested time for the piper to play is as guests arrive, piping at a certain point during the service, or as part of the closing.

Bagpipe Tunes For Funerals And Memorials

Memorial and funeral tunes can vary depending on the desired atmosphere you're looking to achieve. The atmosphere of memorial and funeral services tend to reflect the character and personality of the loved one. In general, funeral and graveside services tend to feature slower, reverent tunes like Amazing Grace or Going Home whereas memorial services, Irish wakes, and Celebrations of Life can include a mixture of slow and upbeat tunes. If you know the type of mood you're looking to set, Gena can offer recommendations on the music selection to match. Below are some of the most commonly requested tunes - categorized by their setting:

  • Wae's Me for Prince Charlie (M, 4/4)
